Tot Learning Lesson Plan (17th Oct to 6th Nov 2010 ) – Part 1

~Yvette is 2 years 5 mths~

I find 3 weeks is a good time line for all the activities I have planned and I am going to stick to it.

I think I over plan this round but then sometimes I just couldn’t stop. I seem to have many energy and I am able to self-motivate. And luckily  Yvette is always my supporter. She has so far (finger cross) never find our learning boring. However, I know she is not very keen in reading as compare to all the activities we did at home. This is the area I put in a lot of more effort and I hardly record here. (Perhaps I have a little high expectation on getting Yvette to read.)

I feel having a structure lesson plan is important to me at least because I can identify Yvette’s strength and weakness on learning. I know she is relatively good in learning numbers as well as maths (surprise), shapes, colours, concept, logic, fact (memory) but rather slow in learning words. Getting her to read is always a challenge but I know she is making great progress as we learn together.

A good teacher will be able to teach and inspire the student and I am trying to be one to Yvette.

Odds and Ends of Our Everyday Life – 27th Oct 2010 ~ Appealing for Camera

Today is one of the rare morning I went out. Usually I will head home after sending Yvette to school. I have been thinking of heading Gym to workout but yet I couldn’t get my bum going.

I planned my route from Home to Canon then to KYDZedu rather than from KYDZedu to Canon then back home. It more efficient to travel to place by place by MRT than bus and taxi. I only have 3 hours in the morning so I have to ensure I factor in the waiting time well.

Our Canon is officially D.E.A.D again. I went down to service centre this morning before I head KYDZedu again to collect the “missing” toy.

At KYDZedu. I found this and was happy to get this for Yvette at S$12.

I am thinking to get Yvette to learn Multiplication now. I am not stressing her but then she had proven she knows.

She had already mastered multiplication of 5 with the help of More About Starfall.

The programme starts from 5,10,15,20,25,… all the way to 50. Then one day I went beyond 50, I said, 55, 60. Yvette went on by saying 65, then I went on by 70, Yvette 75, then I 80, Yvette 85, then I 90, Yvette 95 and finally I 100. I was SO happy! This went on and on for many days. So I am really certain she is fairly good at numbers and I am going to teach her.

Unless you think Multiplication from 1 to 100 is not by memorising, then no point learning them now. It is because the method I am adopting now is by memorising. Concept will come later.

Sam recommended this CD to me long ago. I only turned on for Yvette once. Think with this board, I am going turn it on more often for her to listen. I got this from Popular but then I suggest you to buy in Malaysia. The price that you will need to pay in Malaysia is 50% cheaper! No kidding.

P/S: Appealing to Used Camera. I wonder anyone of you got any very old model compact camera to let go at round S$20 to S$40 bucks. Or can you tell me where to get cheap camera? I don’t want to keep heading Canon to fix the camera although it still under warranty.(Some of the parts still need to pay.) But then we can’t stop Yvette from wanting to “play” with the camera. –.-!!!

Hand Sewed :拔萝卜

I sewed this toy today for the rhymes.

The foam is the soil.

The quality of the picture is suck now. Our Canon Camera is officially dead again.

Hand Sewed Practical Life : Button Up & Shapes

I want to teach Yvette Button-up for long but yet I didn’t want to spend money on such toy. So while browsing this site, I am inspired by this mother again .

She did Button Me Up using her son puzzle and I think this is a great material I should sew one for Yvette.

So I came up with this 2 in 1 toys and Yvette loves it so much.

I also made all these cards for Yvette to do matching. From this set of cards, I found out Yvette could match almost 90% of the shapes.

The cost of these hand sewed toy only cost me S$6 and I need 2 hours to complete sewing. I need another 20 mins to finish the cards. I used Yvette’s shape puzzle to get those shapes. For shapes which I don’t have, I google the shape and copy it into a piece of paper. Print them out and do the cutting on the felt material before I sewed.

This method is suggested by D

For those 3D shapes like Sphere, Cylinder, Cube, Pyramid,  which I can’t sew. I have this toy for Yvette. It was brought so long ago for only S$5 and this is part of the toy.

And lastly this is the toy that I brought to the Play Date and Zhi En loves it so much too.

Tot Learning Lesson Plan (26th Sept to 16th Oct 2010) – Part 1

~Yvette is 2 years 4 mths~

We took 3 weeks to complete (our first lesson) all the learning activities I planned for Yvette for 2 weeks. Mainly because Yvette was unwell, as well as I am still figuring out a lot at my end on what to teach her.

I am not leaving the ABC out. It will be part of it. The ABC will mainly on worksheet. (To practice her pre-writing skill.) I have removed the Alphabet Activity Theme and was replaced by two lapbooks. (What is lapbooking?) I am using Thematic approach to teach Yvette this round. I also want to focus on  Pre-writing (which I think she is ready now), Reading, Learn thru play and not forgetting the practical life.
