Our Holiday Destination for 2009 is Hong Kong

About a year ago, we were in Changi Airport T3. Few days ago, we were at T3. And tomorrow we will depart from T3 to Hong Kong for 5D4N. Taking flight with Yvette is nothing new to me. She took her first flight to KL when she was 11 mths. But I think this round; it will be a total experience altogether again.

Luggage was packed on Sunday night. We packed it a day earlier mainly due to we might need to get anything from store before our departure. (I hate to look high and low for stuffs I need in foreign country.)

Anyway, packing is always easy for me. (Both hubby and I were seasonal traveller for work.) But packing Yvette stuff will be fairly tricky. I did not bring along any cooker for this round because to me, Yvette is old enough to have outside food. (I am not that strict over Yvette having outside food anymore after 18 mths.) As holidays is meant for rest and relax. So cooking in hotel for this round is out of my task list.

Due to winter season in Hong Kong, we need to take care of warm clothing for Yvette. MY SIL was kind to offer me to buy a “warmer” shoe and remind me to put on thicker socks for Yvette. I found one little glove from Winter Time and this only cost me S$7.90. We brought a scarf and a tight for Yvette from Fox. (For is having 25% discount for UOB Credit Card.) Raincoat (from Kiddy Palace) was one of the items to bring along too. I also made a trip to clinic last week to get some medicines for Yvette. (Just in case she falls sick in HK.)

HK 2009

There are two things I always put into practice when I need to be away from Town. I never leave home without flu vaccine and having travel insurance. (I brought Travel insurance even I head Genting.) These two are essential.

So why Hong Kong was chosen?

-> Disney!

I have been to HK for around 10 times and I never been to Disney. We were looking at the Yen exchange rate but decided to give Japan a miss. (It is too expensive to go Japan now.)

-> Ocean Park.

I went Hong Kong for my first holiday with my sister when I was 19 to 20. But we missed all the fun in this park due to raining.

-> Hubby never been to HK before

Surprisingly, my husband has never been to HK before.

-> Books

I want to source for good Chinese books for Yvette in HK.

-> Number hours of flying time

Flying to HK will only take us 3 over hours. So I guess it’s training for Yvette before we get on into longer haul flight.

Having all the pull factors, there are some “negative aspects” about heading HK.

  • I seriously doubt HK will be child friendly country. They have too many stairs and too little escalator. Moving around in Hong Kong with stroller will not be easy. (Thus decided not to bring along our stroller.)
  • I am toilet training Yvette and Yvette could prompt me she needs to pee or poop even she’s in disposable. It is hard to find toilet in HK.
  • The weather is little not right to go for now. (Flu Season)
  • Many warned me, the Disney in HK is not worth going. (Oh… let me go and see myself ok.)

Anyway, we are all geared up and ready to go.

So Bye Bye readers! :D

Weight Issue

I suspect Yvette has yet reached 10kg though many have highlighted to me she is getting heavier.

Well, I reported Yvette is such a glutton nowadays. Yes she is. But there are days when she’s totally not eating much at all. And she’s such an active toddler. She climbs everywhere within her reach now. (Up to coffee table, sofa, dining table chair, etc.) I think soon she will climb up to the dining table.

I remember when I was a little girl; I was always regarded as skinny. I ate a lot and yet I hardly put on weight. I only started to put on weight when I was 15. My heaviest weight I had was 73 kg when I was expecting with Yvette. And now I am only 59 kg. I have been eating a lot and rarely put on weight. I guess mainly due to hectic schedule I have with Yvette and breastfeeding.

Label as “Skinny” is a norm in my family. My mother lost all her weight after each pregnancy easily. She only put on weight on much later in her life when she keeps eating without control. My brother standing at 186 cm and his weight hardly crosses 65 kg. My sister standing 158 cm and her weight is never crossed 45 kg. My dad and my weight were classified as average.

Coming back to Yvette, she’s always at 50 to 75 percentile for height but her weight always couldn’t make it to 50%. Having that, the nurses in polyclinic who measured her weight had hardly highlighted to me that I need to “pump” up Yvette.

“A blessing in disguise” of not fitting into the “right” weight ranger for us are:

  • Yvette could put on M size diaper where many of her peers are using L or XL. (Diaper is expensive and I toilet train Yvette using disposable when we are out.)
  • Yvette could still fit in the nappy cloth. Something really useful for my night training.
  • Yvette is still wearing clothing from 12 to 18 mths. I can save money on clothing from time to time.

So weight an issue, I guess not anymore.

We found so many clocks with date, day and time in one of the shop in Marina Square but we didn’t get one immediately as hubby told me he saw that in Toa Payoh Central.

Arrrr…..

If I know earlier, I will not need to do the Dates, Days and Time card!!!

Term 1 @ Marsden Swim School – Lesson 5

I have tough swimming lesson with Yvette today. She cried most of the time. Before the class, she was OK but then during the lesson, it’s a disaster!

Swimming2

Anyway I am happy to see Yvette is progressing. She could kick her legs and stretch out her hands when she was positioned on her tummy in the water. Perhaps this can be easily done when we keep practice with our child but due to the fact are, I am not a swimmer myself, how would I know what to practice.

Yvette will take a week break before she resume for the next class as it will be a Public holiday on next Friday.

P/S: Due to raining season, I hardly bring Yvette to swim in the public pool on Monday nowadays.
