Month In Review – August & Goals For September 2010

P/S: You might want to read why I started to record this entry monthly here.

1. What were the major event/s for the month?

  • Celebrated FIL’s 84th Birthday at home.
  • Celebrated D’s 40 Birthday. (Actually his birthday is 3rd Sept but then the celebration was with extended family. There will be more celebrations in this coming month as Sept is the most Celebration months.)

2. What were the outings we had?

  • We went Toa Payoh Town Park to see Tortoise

3. Anything new things we did or tried?

  • I went Singapore Indoor Stadium to watch Table Tennis with Yvette. (YOG)
  • We have play dates in the North and went Admiralty Sanctuary Park.
  • We went Punggol Park and Punggol Jetty
  • I went Esplanade to watch PLAYtime! The Magic Island with Yvette.
  • We tried out the Buffet @ Kublai Khan Mongolian BBQ at Park Mall.
  • We go Karaoke with our extended family to celebrate D’s birthday.

4. Any new learning curriculum for Yvette?

  • Introducing her new toys on learning Maths.
  • Started to stress on word learning with Yvette which I never did in the past. I need to make it fun if not the ending will be backfired because Yvette didn’t like to be tested and reconfirmed her knowledge and understand again and again by me.

5. What was the family health stats for the month?

We are in pink!

6. What were my accomplishments this month?

  • I finally typed out all the posts of our last trip.
  • I also started to sleep earlier and not waking up in the middle of the night to catch up “Me-Time”. I changed my routine. I choose to sleep earlier and wake up early in the morning instead. For the past 1 week, (not including weekends,) I slept around 11 pm to 2 am (depending if I really have anything else to catch up at night) and wakes up around 6 am in the morning. Instead of preparing the food in the afternoon, now I cook the soup and keep in the thermal pot in the morning so that I can rest in the afternoon with Yvette or catch up some “Me-Time”.
  • P/S: Steamed food in the thermal taste as good even it’s kept in the pot for more than 8 hours.

7. What surprised me this month?

  • Yvette could read Chinese characters and Yvette started to recognise more words.
  • Yvette could eat like an elephant.

8. What were my disappointments this month?

We cancelled our plan to go holiday – Sabah during this Sept School holiday due to my FIL’s health. Not too sure when can we go holiday again. :( (Really hope there will be a alternatively plan for us.)

9. Any other events happened but I did not record here?

  • Set up aquarium at home but too bad our fishes didn’t survive. My condolences to D!

Everyday Aug 2010

  • She had heaps of fun playing water in Vivo City.

Everyday Aug 20101

13. Any goals for September?

  • To go gyms. Yvette will be attending school this month and I will be free in the morning. I hope I can spend some of my free time doing exercise and losing some weight gain during World Cup Season!
  • To start preparing new homeschooling materials so that I can start my new curriculum with Yvette. (Hopefully I can get it start when she turns 29 mths.)

PLAYtime! The Magic Island

What is PLAY time?

PLAYtime595226

A series designed for audiences aged two to four that seeks to nurture their interest in performing arts. PLAYtime! performances are interactive and encourage toddlers in the audience to join in the narration with simple actions. Each presentation aims to developing toddlers’ linguistic and physical awareness, while encouraging interaction and play with other members of the audience. (Link)

I got to know this play thru one blog I read silently. (Link)

PlaytimeTheMagicIsland

SYNOPSIS of this Play:

In the middle of the ocean lies an island.
And on this island, a magical experience awaits you…

Play with cheeky mischievous monkeys, which will tickle your funny bone. Build your own sandcastles and when it gets too hot, dive into the clear cool waters to pick up pretty sea shells.

When night falls, sway along with the palm trees and sing along to the special songs of the island!

There is plenty for everyone to do!

Thru the past experience I gather, Yvette could sit thru as long as the show interest her and decided to give it a go and I find this play will benefit her learning journeys.

To wake this little devil up in the morning is tough, but still we managed to reach there on time by public transport. (Sometimes I really feel blessed I stay near town.)

It’s free sitting and we were the back. No worries we can’t see the stage as the setting make everyone at every corner able to watch without being block. Of course it will be nice to sit in front.

Anyway, it’s FULL house. Many preschoolers were there. At least 4 preschools were there. It’s really an effort of the schools to make effort to bring these tots out. I hope Yvette will have more excursion in the future with her new school.

I am quite right Yvette could sit thru out. (And I hope this behaviour stays forever!)

2 toilet trips with no meltdowns. The show was so loud and some part got emotional. Some tots cried over the show and Yvette was took it so well.

Yes, this show is interactive. They really involves tots in singing, helping them to pick up the seashell and even teaching the tots numbers. I love the part where the Little Sister tried to make friend with Baby Tiger and Baby Monkey and they had plenty of fun .

I saw some friends from JGC there too. They actually dated me for the next show (due to discount we could get by getting 4 tickets together) but due to the fact that Yvette will be attending school, I have to let it go.

During the show, on and off I will highlight the importance part of the Play (like the the reason why to have friends, why there is a need to share and ask permission, etc.) to her and after the show, I questioned her what she had understand from the Play. She got it right most of the time.

I am glad that she is really showing the show.

And this show really trigger something on her.

She recited “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” on our way home out of her own accord. One missing lyrics but on the whole she was doing fine. (“Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” is one of the song they definitely sing in JGC and at home we do sing it for her from time to time.)

I am so happy to hear that from her not because she recited this song, (she been singing every often at home now and actually I have lost count the songs she could sing); it’s because I know the show has an impact on her.

Term 4 @ Marsden Swim School – Lesson 8

*Short update for personal reminder only*

This will be the second last lesson and I am thinking, the chances of us moving out is high now.

The slots for weekends are rare and there are only  two classes and the timing is not so good for us.

Yvette is doing fine today and but out of sudden, she stop blowing bubbles and drank quite a lot of water today. But then I practice with her, she was ok.

I don’t know what is this girl thinking!
