Nanaki’s First Birthday Party

I received an invitation card for this first birthday party a week ago. I was contemplating of attending. We don’t really know this girl well; she was merely a classmate of Yvette in JGC. Her mother called personally to check on our decision of attending. I feel bad if I would have to turn her down, thus, decided to go for it.

The party was held in ballroom of Raffles hotel. We were early. The first family to reach. (The invitation card stated the party starts at 6 pm.) The ambience was great. Helium-filled balloons floated cheerily in the ballroom. The mummy was so beautiful in my eye. They were happy to receive us too. The mum and the grandma told us Nanaki was not aware what was going on. It’s a norm reaction for all birthday girls and boys in their first birthday, I replied.

After mingling and taking photo and video for 15 mins (they hired a video and cameraman for this event. And we will get a picture of ourselves printed after the shooting too.), I finally saw some familiarity faces. Josh’s family had arrived. (I am closest to this mum in JGC. She was from China, met her husband in China during her husband’s business trip and married to Singapore for 5 years.)

Guests started to pour in.

Not many of us in class attended this party. Only 3 babies were here (out of 12). But all the teachers were here. Francis, Soba & Winnie; Winnie even brought along her daughter too.

The drinks were Champagne and soda drink. The food was mainly finger food. Fruit and ice cream were part of the menu as well. Milk shake and baby biscuits were served too.

The family also hired a magician to entertain the kid. There was the balloon sculpting after the show. Yvette didn’t really show interest watching it while Josh was engrossed. So instead of watching the show, Yvette chose to practice her walking skill. (Yvette doesn’t really allow us to walk every day. Something we can’t do much about this behavior.) This round, she allowed me to held her hand up to walk her. This is something new to us. She also held my leg to walk too.

Time passes fast during happy moments together.

Cake cutting was at 8 pm. The cake looks so beautiful; it taste as good too. I am sure the birthday girl will appreciate the effort her mum put in for her first birthday when she watched the video when she was older.

The beautiful cake! Is this edible?

We left shortly after we had the cake cut as hubby will be having a conference call at 10 pm.

It’s an eye-opening experience for me to attend this party. Be it a big bash or a simple set-up birthday celebration, I believe all parents put in effort to make the first birthday of their every child a memorable one.

P/S: Yvette had a nightmare earlier next morning. Could it be she played too much in the party yesterday?

Term 3: Tenth Lesson with JGC

Yvette woke me up to bring her to pee this morning. (I missed one pee last night.) Ample time for us this morning as both of us was up at 8.30 am. Everything went on smoothly this morning. We left home at 10.30 am and reach school at 11 am. Hmm, things getting more predictable on Tuesday and Thursday. The only surprise I had this morning, Yvette tabbed my leg and ensure I was facing her. She hold on to my leg from crawling position to standing position, stretched out her hand and said “bao” (carry). My little girl has really started to express herself now.

The pedestrian crossing at Paterson Road is being removed yesterday. It’s not too difficult to find the underpass even you are first time using it. There are signs everywhere to guide you along.

Free play ended at 11.20 am. Today we have Flour Play. Yvette was not interested at all. I was surprised. She loves to play with the Baby Johnson Powder at home. The only reason explained by Teacher Winnie, perhaps this corn flour got no fragrant smell at all.

After class, I went to Toy R Us to get a feeding bib for Yvette. I wonder will she use it. But this bib can be used during the messy art work in class. (That Dora apron I brought her Yvette was really too big for her now.) I also brought a set of number puzzle for her too. I am thinking of getting another wooden puzzle from Kiddy Palace as well.

I proceeded to Vita Kids at basement to check out new food for Yvette. Yvette was not eating a lot for her breakfast recently. Perhaps she was sick of eating Frisocrem and Nestle Gold Oats with Prune. I have a packet of Organic baby Oat from Origins lying in the fridge but I have no plan to give that to her again. She still don’t like oat. (I am eating oat every morning, and I always let her nipple and she doesn’t like it.) I brought a packet of Organix First Organic Banana Porridge. Although this is for baby from 4 to 6 mths, I think I can let Yvette eat them as Frisocrem is also Stage 1 cereal.

It was getting late and Yvette must be hungry. Her hand kept pulling my top, indicating she wants to have milk. Unfortunately the nursing room was packed with people. I have to move on to Scott Isetan for her lunch. On my way there, I remembered I was given a packet of soya milk (Natura Soy) due to my purchase in Vita Kids.

The drink

The drink

I carefully read the label (this drink contain no lactose, no cholesterol, no Trans fat and included 16 essential nutrients). I did check with the store assistant whether this drink can be given to Yvette. The store assistant told me it can be given to baby after 1.

I quickly took a sip to make sure this drink is not too sweet for Yvette before I gave it to her. Happily she received the drink from me and starts drinking them. Forget about the Rizz Rice Milk (Brown Rice Drink). Yvette is not going to like it.

Although I have no plan to stop breastfeeding now, but I am constantly looking for right drink for Yvette as I know she doesn’t like formula milk. After reading book from Dr Joel Fuhrman, I am convincing by the fact that Milk doesn’t does our body good. (Read some research here.)  Disease–Proof Your Child Feeding Kids Right from Dr Joel Fuhrman, M.D deepen my understanding of what our children eat during their growth years has such a profound effect on their later health and that the first ten years may be the most critical. (That’s why formula milk in the market is up to 10 years.)

She drank most of it. I think I can make a trip down to United Square to get it for her again. (There is another branch at United Square.)

Today, due to some shopping trip I have earlier, we reached home around 2.30 pm and Yvette dozed off in the bus on the way home.
